About

Growing the Commons (GtC) is a collaboration of individuals and organisations that are developing tools, ideas and practices to grow the commons movement.

By commons we mean community ownership and control of essential infrastructure (housing, land, energy, water, care, governance and exchange), in perpetuity. This includes the resources themselves, local people (commoners) who use them, and a set of rules (written by the commoners) about how the resources are used, so that they’re not depleted, sold or destroyed.

GtC is a ‘knowledge commons’ – a global resource, owned and governed by practitioners, comprising:

1. a knowledge base: a huge bank of commons and commons-related topics, providing concise, understandable and curated information and signposting for producing everything we need in our communities, in a world in which the capitalist economy, global supply chains and natural environment may be degrading. 2. a blog, with news, projects and opinions. Please subscribe.
